Pricing Structure Update 2022
From the very beginning we have been passionately committed to putting the best coffees into your hands and four years on, we are still committed to that same pursuit.
Unfortunately given the current global state of affairs, we find ourselves with no other option but to review our pricing in order to safeguard the quality of the coffee we serve. The lingering effects of Brexit and Covid 19 have made it impossible for us to maintain our current pricing structure; prices that we have left untouched since we opened in 2017.
There are a number of reasons for this affecting every element of the process from bean to cup. Increases in the cost of shipping and raw materials, a shortage of experienced workers, port congestion and a boom in demand post-pandemic have all led to a significantly inflated market. To highlight one example, the cost of a single shipping container has jumped from $3,300 to $10,000.
The effects of the climate crisis cannot be ignored either. Brazil, the largest global exporter of coffee, saw producers lose nearly 40% of their crops because of a decimating frost. Similarly in Colombia, the world’s second largest supplier, extreme wet conditions resulted in a loss of harvest.
These two countries alone account for two-thirds of coffee worldwide and with a simultaneous drop in supply and increase in demand, the coffee market has now reached a ten year high.
This is not a decision that we have taken lightly. Where possible we have tried to make any changes sensitively and conservatively but ultimately, this was an enforced last resort. We cannot express how much we appreciate your support up to now, we do not take it for granted.
We can’t wait to see you at Oh! Belfast, Whiteabbey, or Go soon!
