La Florida, Peru
As the familiarity of routine is reignited with September drawing ever closer, we thought this would be the perfect moment to introduce you to the latest addition to the Oh! Coffee line up: La Florida.
La Florida hails from the mountainous Northern province of Jaén, Peru. It is a beautifully full-bodied, washed coffee, produced at approximately 1900 MASL, with a cupping score of 85.
While top quality, South American coffees are no rare thing to the specialty community, what makes this coffee so remarkable, and one of the reasons that I am personally so excited to be working with it, is what this coffee represents.
It is a product of the Ande Peruanos Coffee Producers Association - a non-profit social enterprise established in 2020 with coffee farmers, from coffee growing families, in order to “improve their economic income and quality of life, as well as to contribute to the sustainability of their coffee cultivation areas and wider environment.”
Sustainable farming and honourable trading practices at the association directly reflect their commitment to all aspects of the supply chain from the land, their workers, their association members, and their customers. They are a sterling example of modern coffee practice.
The processing methods at Ande Peruanos play a significant role in the cupping profile each coffee produces too. Once the beans have been removed from the cherries (depulped), every coffee spends between 12-24 hours in a fermentation tank. These then go through clean water which removes the remaining mucilage before being dried in highly controlled drying atmospheres.
The result for us is an intense, fruity brew with an almost jammy mouthfeel.
Why not try our very own NI Aeropress Quarter-Finalist Peter Burn’s inverted aeropress recipe?
